About Me.

Hi, I'm Jon and after playing football for years, I started running so that I could keep my fitness. I already had the kit - a pair of trainers and some jogging bottoms - so I just gave it a go. After a short while, I was missing the competitive parts of football though so in 1995, I signed up for the London Marathon and what a journey that put me on! I had to train and only had 4 months to do it. I luckily had a good level of fitness to start with so with the right training plan I was able to complete it and have been running ever since.

I love the freedom of the outdoors and the feel-good factor at the end of a good run. I've always said that it's a low barrier to entry - just the mind that gets in your way - since it just takes lacing up those trainers and taking the first steps out the door - then you're all set for a good run, a bad run, an okay run - but the point is - you did it. It's this attitude that has found me running all over the world. It's the first thing I pack in my suitcase on holiday and it's opened up my eyes to a world that many travellers don't get the chance to see, like people setting up for the day, sunrises over the ocean, and breath-taking landscapes (hence signing up for the Everest Marathon). You also see other runners passing by and what I've discovered along the way is that there is a big community of fun and incredible people of all ages and abilities and they are friendly and supportive. Nine times out of ten you'll get a good morning, a smile, or a wave - how often do you get that these days from strangers?

I had been coaching sport for 20 years and I wanted to get back to my roots and give back to my community so I felt the time had come to impart my knowledge of running to others. I believe so much that the positive mental health benefits are as good as the physical ones in running and sometimes you just need a helping hand to get you on the starting block.

I am a Coach at a local running club and I also coach running at a local Triathlon Club.

In addition I lead a weekly 5k Run Talk Run mental health group on Tuesdays from Baldock, but that's just the start. I'm keen to bring, if not a love of, then at least a respect for running for everyone. We all have good runs and bad runs whether you're a seasoned marathoner or someone who only just bought a pair of trainers. I can help you reach your goals.                                                                                   Take the first step today and send to  me an enquiry.

Having retired in July 2020 I decided after 25 years to take up running again. In September 2020 I joined Run Talk Run, an informal running group running a 5k route every Tuesday morning led by Jon. At first  I think I walked quite a lot but gradually I noticed that I could run the 5k without stopping. I went from not running to running 5k two or three times a week. Fast forward to Christmas 2021. I was given a book by Vassos Alexander on 'How to Run a Marathon'. I discussed the possibility of doing this with Jon who offered to coach me if I decided to do it.  Having someone with a wealth of running experience to encourage me and to tailor a running plan was great. You can find plans on the internet or in books but they lack the personal touch.  I did run a marathon and was very pleased with myself. Running 5k weekly to running 26.2 miles is an achievement and I would recommend having a person like Jon to help a runner complete their goal.
